That's excellent. Until I hear it from Elko's own mouth, I'm still going to be anxious, but it sure sounds very promising. I tried reading the sourced article from Adam Rowe, but unfortunately it's paywalled.

From ESPN...
Texas A&M is in deep discussions with Duke's Mike Elko to make him the school's next head coach, sources told ESPN.

Elko addressed the potential move with his Duke team at a team meeting on Sunday and told them some clarity would come in the next 24 hours. Sources told ESPN that a deal could be finalized as early as Sunday night.
Been here before with Cutcliffe and Tennessee, not sure we can go 2-0.

The Chronicle has a fallout tracker of who is leaving after Elko packed his bags, including players and staff. Of players so far, we will miss Aeneas Peebles.

Peebles is a big loss. Talented defensive linemen are NOT a dime a dozen. Nina King needs to make a good hire quickly to limit the portal damage.

I agree, but what sucks is that in making a quick hire there is more of a risk of it not being a good hire.

Yea, this will be a tough needle to thread. The last hire took about 2 weeks, IIRC, and lasted 2 years, unraveling completely in 2 days. X( X(

My question is, will we even be able to field a team for a bowl game? How many coaches are going with Elko? If players enter the transfer portal, are they still eligible to play? All of this seriously hinders our ability to be competitive in a bowl game.

I’ve lost a LOT of respect for Mike Elko over his handling of this situation.

Remains to be seen if we'll have enough coaches and/or players for a bowl. Trooper Taylor did a fabulous job retaining recruits when Cut was fired. It may not have been 100% but was damned close. I'd bet he reached out to every one of the 2024 recruits today and it sounds like Nina King was contacting all current players. There was another portalet entry today, a true freshman WR to DB convert who I don't think played a snap this year but I'm not real good with names/number/playing time for an 85+ man roster. Hate to see anyone leave but this is nowhere near the loss that Peebles will be.

Eligible to play in the bowl game? Yes. I'm not sure how motivated they'd be if they did so, how willing to play they'd be, or how much the rest of the team would want them on the field. But technically, yes, they would be eligible to play.

Graham Barton, DeWayne Carter, and Porter Wilson made the All ACC first team.
Jacob Monk, Jordan Moore, and Tre Freeman made the 2nd.
Jordan Waters and Aeneas Peebles made the 3rd.
Al Blades Jr and Brandon Johnson got mentioned honorably. ;)

Riley Leonard will suck somewhere else next year. Not a shock. It wouldn't have been too shocking to me even if we still had Elko.

Hoping ND, his likely destination, goes for about 6-7 wins next year.

I’m cool with him winning big against the Aggies. Other than that…

And I really didn't need another reason to despise ND but...

Go Henry and Grayson!!

I'm happy that Riley will still be with us in Birmingham. (And I'm happy that we don't play them next year.)
