Mrs. Nrrrrvous and I went out to the Starr Hill Rooftop where we each enjoyed a flight, a pint and some delish tacos from Tazza Kitchen next door.

I had -

JOMO - Vienna Lager
Snow Blind - Doppelbock
Party Monster - Citrus Sour
Roxanne - Raspberry Sour
Carole - Cranberry Raspberry Gose

All delicious, all easy Cat 2, some borderline or better Cat 3.

Felt safe on the rooftop, had a heater nearby for just a touch of warmth. Great experience. Love me some Starr Hill.

Sure hope I don’t get Hornswoggled today!

Veil Hornswoggle
Double Stuffed Oreo and Cinnamon

Poured thicker than motor oil.
Dark, viscous. No head.

Smells like chocolate and marshmallow.

Super dense.
Tastes like a liquified oreo cookie with a cinnamon finish.

Frankly, the cinnamon finish makes the beer. Its a really great twist that takes a solid stout to the next level.

Veil. Need I say more?

Had a Frederick H. from a brewery called, get this, The Bruery.

Excellent, excellent sour! Easy category 3. If you enjoy sours like I do, you need to check this one out.

"German-style tart wheat beer fermented in American-made oak foeders"

I think I actually liked it more than the Fine Creek Sour we just had a couple weeks ago.

Perfect balance of the tart with the sweet, very light, crisp. Mmm.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program...

The Bruery makes outstanding beer.
Historically have landed on the expensive side, and well worth it.

Yeah, this one was normally $10 a pint but it was happy hour so I coughed up the fiver...

Holy Hops, LegoBatman; look at this (partial, but non-partisan) list of drafts at Bottle Rev today for Stout Day:

Roadside Prophet (2019) imperial stout

• 11% ABV

• New Anthem Beer Project

• Wilmington, NC

Imperial conditioned on Nibs, Habanero, Serrano and Poblanos with some vanilla and Cinnamon.

Something So Sincere 2020 Stout - Imperial / Double Pastry

• 11% ABV

• Casita Brewing Company

• Wilson, NC

Our ever changing anniversary ale is back again as a stout. This year we wanted to brew a beer that was first made little over 3 years ago as a collab with Modern times called Dragons mask. Its a big imperial stout with cocoa nibs, cinnamon, vanilla, and sea salt. All made to remind you of one of the best street snacks.

Photon Sphere Stout - Imperial / Double

• 11.91% ABV

• Olde Hickory Brewery

• Hickory, NC

Imperial stout, bourbon barrel aged, with honey, cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa, and habanero pepper.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Thanks! I'll have to look for Roadside Prophet. Looks hotter and more prophetic than Nate Silver. :wizard:

(more out of order posting)

Rye on Rye (2015)-Boulevard Brewing

CameronBornAndBred took a chance on this corked and caged 750 ml bottle a couple weeks ago while vacationing and delivered to tailgate yesterday. A fine, fine selection. Pour was a slightly cloudy dark amber with a small head. Caramel/brown sugar readily apparent aromas along with a bit of mustiness. Palate-pleasing sensations of toffee, syrup, vanilla, coconut, wood with a warming, boozy finish followed. It's a rye ale but I'm not really sure what type but an old or stock ale would be the closest matches, so I'll guess IBUs are 30 as this is a malt/grain/booze forward beverage. It was then aged in rye whiskey barrels, perhaps a year. ABV is 12% and quite smooth. Very nice pairing with our finger-licking, pig-picking tailgate feast. Thanks!
From last PM:

Rye on Rye-Boulevard Brewing Company

(this is a variant of the 2015 beer above)

Pretty far from local, unless you're in Kansas

Credit-a keen eye, a brewery reputation and a few extra bucks several months ago
Style-flavored, barrel aged ale ()
Format-12 ounce bottle
Please enjoy by-16MAR2021 D L 031620 13:16
Stemware-Founders snifter
Appearance-dark amber and clear with a smallish off white, short lived head
Nose-whiskey, must and maple
Mouthfeel-soft
Tastes-dark caramel, whiskey, maple syrup, brown sugar, light herbal/earthy hops, vanilla, wood and a bit of mustiness
Adjuncts-maple syrup
Barrels-Templeton rye
IBU-16
ABV-13.2% (frighteningly smooth)
Overall impression-good gravy, I shoulda bought this the first time I saw it; very well blended/aged/crafted
Ymm, Beer rating-low/mid cat 3; a notch below their BBA Quad but still an outstanding creation; happy to have 3 left

From last PM:

Beautiful Nonsense (draft)-Flying Machine Brewing Company

Kinda local

Credit-yesterday was National (International?) Stout day, it was on tap and mpj96 (?) recently mentioned this brewery so why not/
Style-flavored imperial stout
Format-half pint plastic cup ()
Appearance-dark, dark brown with a smallish tan head
Nose ticklers-lotsa chocolate
Mouthfeel-smooth but a bit thin for the style
Tastes-plenty of milk chocolate, a bit nutty, vanilla, dark fruit
Adjuncts-triple chocolatized (milk, white, dark), hazlenuts (I really kinda missed this), cacao
IBU-maybe 50
ABV-13% (waaaaay too easy sipping)
Overall impression-very good but thin; could have had a bit more hazlenuttiness
Ymm, Beer rating-high cat 2; not quite good enough for another crowded stadium
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Brewery Bhavana Cellar Door 13

Generous gift/ trade from RJ.

Ludicrously thick tan head which is not dense and collapses under its own weight fairly quickly.

A nose I cannot place. Bourbon, maybe.

Rich chocolate, hefty mouthfeel.

Unusual finish. Bourbon and cinnamon?

Insanely good.

Thanks RJ and beer goddess!!!
